Membership

The Commonwealth Club is one of Canberra’s oldest private social clubs, proud of its heritage and traditions yet progressive in its outlook. For citizens of good character, it upholds the core principles of courtesy and consideration for others, formality, and impeccable values and conduct. Its Members are drawn largely from the fields of academia, business, farming and grazing, government, the professions, the military, the diplomatic corps and the public service.

The Club offers a variety of benefits, social events, and facilities to Members. Their partners, family and friends are also very welcome to participate in a wide range of the Club’s activities.

Becoming a Member

Membership of the Commonwealth Club is obtained by a proposal as a result of an introduction by one or more existing club members.

To join the Club, we require that all nominees are proposed and seconded by two Members. The nomination should also include names of three Club Members to whom the nominee has been introduced.  Your Proposer will arrange for you to meet with a member of the Election Committee. To apply, please discuss with your proposer the completion of the nomination form.

If you are unable to nominate a Proposer and Seconder, please contact the General Manager, Mr Stuart Gemmell (contact details are set out below).

Once complete, your Proposer is responsible for returning the nomination form to the General Manager, Commonwealth Club, 25 Forster Crescent, Yarralumla, ACT 2600.

Upon receipt nominations are vetted for completeness and then forwarded to the Election Committee for review.  Names of Nominees are placed on the Club’s noticeboard for a minimum of 14 days prior to the Election Committee’s final consideration. The Election Committee meets monthly, on the fourth Tuesday of each month.  Nomination forms must reach the Club by the previous Thursday.

If you have any questions or would like details about the joining fees and subscriptions, please contact the General Manager, phone: +61 2 6120 2100; email: [email protected]
